PROBLEM OF PRACTICE
Many African American students are exposed to violence and aggression that can impact attitudes and behaviors in the classroom. In the month of July, 91% of referrals at Holt were those of African American males. The reported incidences were those of non-compliance, aggression, and disruptive behavior. Our teachers often have difficulty addressing the many needs of our students due to lack of training and resources. My focus was to provide resources and strategies for both African American male students and their teachers to decrease the amount of office referrals.
